CLC Publishing Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how CLC Publishing handles information when authorised users connect and use YouTube through CLC Publishing.

CLC Publishing is an internal publishing system operated by the Confessional Lutheran Church. It is used by authorised church administrators and other authorised representatives to prepare and publish media belonging to the Church and its congregations.

1. Use of YouTube API Services

CLC Publishing uses YouTube API Services, including the YouTube Data API, to enable authorised users to connect a YouTube channel and perform publishing actions on that channel.

By using YouTube-related functions within CLC Publishing, users are also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service:

2. Information we access

When an authorised user connects a Google or YouTube account, CLC Publishing may access information made available through the permissions granted by that user, including:

  • the identity of the connected YouTube channel;
  • the YouTube channel ID, channel title and channel handle;
  • OAuth authorisation information needed to maintain the connection;
  • information returned by YouTube concerning videos and other resources that CLC Publishing has been authorised to create or manage; and
  • YouTube video IDs, URLs, publication status and related publication metadata needed to record and manage publishing actions.

CLC Publishing does not request, collect or store a user’s Google or YouTube password.

3. Information supplied by authorised users

Authorised users may provide or approve material for publication through CLC Publishing, including:

  • video and audio files;
  • video titles;
  • video descriptions;
  • thumbnails;
  • publication and visibility settings;
  • sermon and service information; and
  • other metadata associated with material being published.

This material is used to carry out the publishing actions expressly authorised by the user.

4. How we use information

CLC Publishing uses information obtained through YouTube API Services only for purposes connected with its publishing functions. These purposes include:

  • verifying which YouTube channel has been connected;
  • maintaining an authorised connection to that channel;
  • uploading Church or congregation videos to YouTube;
  • setting user-approved video titles, descriptions, thumbnails and visibility settings;
  • recording the resulting YouTube video ID and URL;
  • linking published YouTube material to the corresponding Church website content;
  • detecting failed or expired authorisations; and
  • supporting retry, status and audit functions needed to operate the publishing workflow reliably.

CLC Publishing does not use YouTube API data for advertising, profiling, behavioural tracking or the sale of personal information.

5. Sharing of information

CLC Publishing sends information to Google and YouTube when necessary to carry out actions authorised by the user, such as uploading a video or updating its metadata.

Information may also be processed by the hosting and technical infrastructure used to operate CLC Publishing where this is necessary to provide, secure, maintain or back up the service.

We do not sell YouTube API data or personal information obtained through CLC Publishing.

Authorised YouTube data is not made available through CLC Publishing to unrelated third parties.

6. OAuth tokens and security

CLC Publishing uses Google OAuth 2.0 rather than collecting Google or YouTube passwords.

Where necessary to maintain an authorised connection, OAuth access and refresh tokens are stored securely on the server. CLC Publishing applies technical and organisational measures intended to protect these credentials and associated data from unauthorised access, use or disclosure.

Authorisation credentials are used only for the Google or YouTube account and purposes for which the user granted permission.

7. Retention of YouTube data

CLC Publishing retains authorised information only for as long as it is reasonably required to operate the publishing workflow, maintain the authorised connection, preserve necessary publication records, meet legal obligations, or protect the security and integrity of the service.

Publication records such as a YouTube video ID or public video URL may be retained as part of the Church’s own publishing records after an OAuth connection has ended where that information remains necessary to identify content that was published by the Church.

Authorised YouTube API data that is no longer permitted to be retained following revocation or expiry of authorisation will be deleted in accordance with applicable YouTube API Services requirements.

8. Revoking access

An authorised user may disconnect Google / YouTube from CLC Publishing using the connection controls provided within CLC Publishing.

Users may also revoke CLC Publishing’s access to their Google account through Google’s third-party connection and security settings:

When authorisation is revoked, CLC Publishing will cease using that authorisation and will remove authorised data that must be deleted as a result of the revocation in accordance with applicable YouTube API Services requirements.

9. User control over publishing actions

CLC Publishing is designed so that authorised users retain control over actions performed on their behalf. Information prepared or suggested by the system is presented as part of the publishing workflow and the authorised user remains responsible for approving publication actions and the information that will be sent to YouTube.

Where a video is uploaded, the publishing workflow identifies the connected YouTube channel and provides the relevant publication information and visibility setting before the publishing action is authorised.

10. Cookies and local website information

CLC Publishing operates within an authenticated WordPress administration system. The website may use cookies or similar technologies required for login, authentication, security, session management and operation of the administration interface.

CLC Publishing does not use YouTube API data to provide behavioural advertising.

11. Data deletion and privacy requests

Authorised users may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information held in connection with CLC Publishing, subject to applicable legal and operational requirements.

To make a privacy or data-deletion request, email info@lutheran.ch and include the words CLC Publishing privacy request in the subject line.

Please identify the congregation or YouTube channel concerned so that the relevant connection and stored data can be located.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when CLC Publishing, its use of YouTube API Services, or applicable legal or platform requirements change. The current version will be published on this page with its effective date.
