The Confessional Lutheran Faith in the United Kingdom
The Confessional Lutheran Church exists to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ purely and faithfully, and to establish, strengthen, and extend the confessional Lutheran faith in the United Kingdom.
The Lutheran Confessions faithfully set forth the teaching of Holy Scripture. We therefore seek not merely to preserve the Lutheran faith among those who already confess it, but to bring the Gospel to others and invite them to become confessional Lutherans.
Our work has five particular aims:
- To proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ clearly and without compromise, so that sinners hear the forgiveness, life, and salvation Christ has won for them.
- To bring people into the Lutheran confession, teaching the Christian faith from Holy Scripture and helping those from other backgrounds discover and embrace confessional Lutheran Christianity.
- To plant confessional Lutheran congregations, especially where faithful Lutheran churches do not presently exist.
- To prepare and receive pastors through colloquy, providing theological study, examination, and formation for ministers seeking to serve as confessional Lutheran pastors.
- To help congregations and church bodies become confessional Lutheran, providing a path towards doctrinal agreement, a common confession, and church fellowship.

Our Fellowship
The Confessional Lutheran Church is an independent confessional Lutheran church body. In December 2025, the WELS Commission on Inter-Church Relations formally recognised Pastor Pete Myers as an independent confessional Lutheran brother, stated that it was confident that WELS and Pastor Myers were united in their confession of Bible doctrine, and described Manchester Lutheran Church as a congregation of the Confessional Lutheran Church in the UK.
WELS has subsequently clarified that this recognition did not constitute a formal declaration of church-body fellowship with the CLC. Under WELS polity, such a declaration would require action by the synod through its convention process.
We are committed to seeking confessional fellowship with churches throughout the world that share our confession of the Christian faith. We are seeking membership in the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (CELC).
The basis on which we seek fellowship with other churches is not institutional convenience, but a common confession of the truth of Holy Scripture and of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
